Henry Albert Swiber Sr.

Henry Albert Swiber, Sr., 89, a native of New Orleans and resident of Morgan City, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Teche Regional Medical Center. Henry was a veteran of the United States Cost Guard, having served from 1942 to 1946. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight in 1983 and 1984. He was named "Knight of the Year" in 1983, and his family was recognized as "Family of the Year" in 1984. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans organization, the American Legion Post #96, and the Forty and Eight. He and his wife were named Citizens of the month in March 1999 by Whitney Bank and the St. Mary Parish AARP. He was a retired employee of the City of Morgan City. Henry loved gardening, fishing, and most of all, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Henry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marie Mae Griffin Swiber; three sons, Henry Albert Swiber, Jr., and wife Dianne, Michael Glynn Swiber, and wife Paula, and Dennis Joseph Swiber, all of Morgan City. His four daughters include, Patricia Ann Autrey, and husband Ray, Marie Mae Fromenthal, and husband Rodney, Denise Ann Ritchie, and husband John, all of Morgan City, and Barbara Ann Strader, and husband James Thomas Strader of Berlin, New Jersey. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Constant and Johanna Swiber, three brothers, and four sisters, and beloved son David Joseph Swiber. Visitation will be Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Holy Cross Catholic Church beginning at 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM. The Catholic Daughters will recite the rosary at 8:30 AM and the funeral mass will be at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at the Morgan City Cemetery.
