Mary D. Pitts March 20, 1921 February 14, 2012 Mary D. “Pete” Pitts, 90, a native of Prospect, Tennessee, long-time resident of Fayetteville, Tennessee and most recently a resident of Morgan City, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Teche Regional Medical Center. Pete was born on March 20, 1921 in Prospect, Tennessee, the daughter of Guy B and Olivia Phillips Daly. Pete is survived by her son, Guy Pitts and his wife, Denise of Morgan City, Louisiana; three grandsons: Wes Pitts and his wife, Jane of Mandeville, Louisiana, Jason Pitts of Metairie, Louisiana and Ryan Pitts of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two granddaughters: Maira-Olivia Pitts and Kate Pitts, both of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; five great-grandchildren: Mary Barbara, Patrick, Guy, Anna and William Pitts; two sisters: Ann Stevenson of Pulaski, Tennessee and Sue Clark of Athens, Alabama; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ephe Pitts; her parents, Guy B and Olivia Phillips Daly; one daughter, Mary Paula Pitts Evans; her son-in-law, Judge Robert Evans; her daughter-in-law, Lorella LaRoche-Pitts; three brothers and their wives; two sisters and their husbands; two brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law and their husbands. Pete was a graduate of Martin College, now Martin Methodist College, in Pulaski, Tennessee. Pete and her husband Ephe were long-time operators of both a farm and Pittsbend Sand & Gravel in Fayetteville, Tennessee. Mrs. Pitts was a long-standing and active member of the First United Methodist Church in Fayetteville. She was a member of the Junior Round Dozen and active in a number of other civic and social organizations. Pete was well known for her outstanding needlework; many of her pieces received recognition, most notably pieces that were selected for exhibition at the 1982 World’s Fair. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 18th, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City, Louisiana. Visitation and Funeral Services will be held at Higgins Funeral Home in Fayetteville, Tennessee on Friday, February 24th, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Fayetteville, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Pete may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Fayetteville, Tennessee at 200 North Elk Avenue, Fayetteville, Tennessee 37334.
