Alvin Legendre

March 2, 1935 — September 20, 2007

Alvin “Sonny” Legendre, 72, a resident of Bayou Vista and a native of Morgan City passed away, Thursday, September 20, 2007 at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans. Sonny was a big part of his community, he was a member of the Patterson Rotary, Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, MADD, Red Ribbon Committee, Ultraya and The Knights of Columbus (4th Degree) Knight Monsignor Rousseau Assembly. Sonny was a coach for Dixie Youth Baseball as well as an umpire in the Pony League and a football referee. Sonny is survived by his wife Susan Freia Legendre of Bayou Vista, three sons, Kerry Legendre and his wife Karen of Stephensville, Paul Legendre and his wife Sharon of Bayou Vista, Sean Howell and his wife Katherine of Bayou Vista; four daughters, Jackie Kitchen and her husband Mike of Morgan City, Lana Fell and her husband Tim of Stephensville, Angie Nelson and Major Joe Nelson of Hawaii, Jessica Martin and her husband Casey of Berwick; one brother, Larry Legendre and his wife Dorothy of Thibodaux; one half-brother, Kenneth Legendre; two half-sisters, Cindy Landry and Chantel Concienne. Fourteen grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren also survive Sonny. Sonny was preceded in death by is parents, Alvin Legendre Sr. and Jane Tabor Cowart, his first wife, Velma Richard Legendre, one half-brother, Wallace Legendre, step-father, Clarence Cowart. Visitation will be held Friday, September 21, 2007 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Bayou Vista from 8am until 11am. A Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 11am. “Sonny” will be laid to rest in Morgan City Cemetery.
