Obituary

Alice Schexnayder Waguespack, 91, a resident of Morgan City, passed away peacefully, Monday, July 27,2026, at Legacy Nursing Home and Rehabilitation.

Alice was born on January 17, 1935, the daughter of Robert Schexnayder and Evelie Rome Schexnayder.

As a devoted grandmother, she spoiled her grandchildren with delightful breakfast surprises, like coffee milk served in bed and delicious pancakes that they'll never forget. Famous for her incredible fried chicken and mouthwatering crawfish bisque, she had a knack for bringing family together around the dinner table, where stories and laughter flowed as freely as the food.

An active member of the Ladies Alter Society at St. Bernadette; Alice's faith was a pillar of her life. She enjoyed staying fit and going to exercise classes. When she wasn't in the kitchen or staying active, Alice could often be found enjoying a game of bour6, where her competitive spirit shone as brightly as her kindness. She worked as a salesperson for Anthonys Department Store and Stage for 35 years before she retired.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sally Lawton (Pete); two sons, William "Billy" Waguespack (Phyllis) and Ted Waguespack (Theresa); Daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Waguespack; 8 grandchildren, Jeffrey Matte (Lauren), Eric Matte (Brittany), Nicholas Waguespack, Jodie LeBlanc (Justin), Jonathan Waguespack (Tiffany), Megan Waguespack, Lauren Lawton, Matt Lawton; 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; sister, Shirley Gobin; brother, Robert Schexnayder.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Evelie Schexnayder; husband of 70 years, Lester Waguespack Sr.; son, Lester Waguespack Jr.; three sisters and one brother.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to St. Bernadette Catholic Church.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Morgan City Cemetery Mausoleum, with Father Jay Baker officiating.
