Daniel Livingston McCloy Jr., 81, a resident of Stephensville, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 31, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Daniel was born October 2, 1944, in Morgan City, the son of Daniel Livingston McCloy Sr. and Lena Belle Verret McCloy.
Dan wanted to lead a life of service to God, family, and community. He was a cub scout leader and the president of the Berwick High School Athletic Department. Dan also served on the water board in Bayou Vista. Dan was the proud chief of Bayou Vista Fire Department. Daniel enjoyed his regular trips to the casino, a good card game, with friends, or cooking at home with family. He was a great joke teller and could make anyone crack a smile. Dan was a lifetime supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Dan was a man who truly lived for the water; his love for the rivers and bayous of Louisiana was second to none, and he and his wife Barbara made their home on the water, where they both found joy and peace. As a respected self-employed marine surveyor for over 50 years, he turned his passion for the water into a fulfilling career, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike. He owned United Marine Surveying and then UMS Inc. A true outdoorsman at heart, Dan enjoyed hunting and spending time in nature, relishing in the beauty of the world around him.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Barbara Badeaux McCloy; two sons, Shawn Michael McCloy and wife Electa, Kerry McCloy and wife Jeanne; two grandchildren, Liam Daniel Joseph McCloy and McKenzie Grace McCloy; numerous nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel McCloy Sr. and Lena Belle; two sisters, Betty McCloy and Nettie Acosta; nephew, Peter Acosta; in laws, Harry and Joan Badeaux; brother-in-law, Harry Daniel Badeaux; sister-in-law, Betty Moore Badeaux.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Daniels name.
A Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, June 4, 2026, with Father Brett Lapeyrouse officiating. In keeping with Dan’s wishes, he will be cremated and laid to rest in Morgan City Cemetery.
