Elvira Marie VonHeuvel Hicks, 86, a resident of Berwick, passed away peacefully, April 30, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Elvira was born September 9, 1937, the daughter of Eilert VonHeuvel and Sena Owens.
A devoted wife for 60 years, Elvira was a very strong and determined woman. She was the daughter of sharecroppers and picked cotton as a kid. She endured many hardships, losing her father at 8 years old, and living with her sister at 14 while her mother worked at a carnival. She survived cancer 4 times, and was adamant that the patient who, “eats,” live. Her better safe than sorry attitude has been passed down to her children and grandchildren. She was a great mother and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her six daughters, Carmen Annette Crochet of Bayou Vista; Alice Marie Wagner of Roseville, Michigan, Cynthia Elmaline Hicks of Osceola, Florida, Virginia Ann LeBlanc of Stephensville, Sena Loraine Latiolais of Church Point, Louisiana, and Mattie Roselee Landry of Morgan City; 16 grandchildren, Tobey, Cassie, Patricia, Mark, Karessa, Arielle, Emily, Taylor, Faith, Justin, Andrew, Destiny, Christopher, Kaitlyn, Gwen, Maggie, Alexandria, McKenzie; 14 great-grandchildren, Adon, Ella, Justin Dwayne “J.D.”, Abigal, Hunter, Patrick, Bailey, Afton, Lucas, Raylie, Delaina, Gabriel, Hayden, Jasmine, Brianna, Aubrey, Grayson, Raylie, Logan, and Jaxson.
Elvira was preceded in death by her parents, Eilert and Sena VonHeuvel; husband, Elmer Hicks; siblings, Tincy McLean, Lillian Lofton, Norman VonHeuvel, Delbert Vonheuvel, Eikele VonHeuvel, Maragaret VonHeuvel, Leo VonHeuvel, Buddy VonHeuvel, Ruby Tucker and Ollie Mae Ward.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Twin City Funeral Home with Brother Brent Bourgeois officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 5, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of services at Twin City Funeral Home.
Keeping with Elvira’s wishes, she will be cremated and entombed with her husband, Elmer, in the Berwick Cemetery Mausoleum.
