Irving Thomas Comeaux

Irving Thomas Comeaux, 82, a lifelong resident of Bayou L’Ourse, passed away peacefullyon May 17, 2026.

Born on November 10, 1943, in Morgan City, Irving was the son of Ervin Thomas Comeaux and Helen Morgan Comeaux. Irving was married to the love of his life, Janet Topham Comeaux, for 64 wonderful years. Together they built a strong and loving family rooted in Bayou L’Ourse.

An outdoorsman at heart and a true jack of all trades, Irving was well known and deeply respected for his remarkable 61-year career as a taxidermist. He was a pioneer in developing life-size big game taxidermy techniques that later became standard throughout the industry. Over the years, he earned the admiration, loyalty, and friendship of generations of customers who appreciated not only his skill, but also the kind and genuine person he was.

Irving also had a tremendous passion for coaching youth sports. From 1979 to 1998, he coached Dixie Youth Baseball and took immense pride in leading the beloved Bayou L’Ourse Bobcats baseball teams. Under his leadership, the Bobcats earned numerous league championships, but more importantly, he helped shape the lives and character of countless young athletes who proudly called him “Coach.”

Dedicated to public service, Irving was elected to the Assumption Parish Police Jury, where he faithfully served from 1992 until 2023. His mission was always to improve the lives of the people of Bayou L’Ourse and Assumption Parish. During his years of service, he was instrumental in forming drainage districts, recreational districts, and many other community services that continue to benefit the parish today.

Irving will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Janet Topham Comeaux; his sister, Catherine Hauser of Morgan City; his three sons, Jim Comeaux and wife Bobbie of Bayou L’Ourse, Glen Comeaux and wife Belinda of Bayou L’Ourse, and Mark Comeaux and wife Samantha of Bayou L’Ourse; his seven grandchildren, David Comeaux and wife Veronica, Andre Duval and husband Cody, Kip Comeaux and wife Kerri, Morgan Comeaux, Alli Comeaux, Shelbie Coggins and husband Victor, and Toby Comeaux; along with six great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Helen Morgan Comeaux; his sister, Virginia Comeaux; and his brother, Ronnie Comeaux. Irving’s legacy will live on through the family he cherished, the community he faithfully served, the athletes he mentored, and the countless lives he touched through his work and generosity. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

The family would like to thank their dear friends, Barbara Landry and family, and the Ribardi family for their kindness and support. A special thank you to his grandson Toby for all hehas done for his best friend.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, May 22, 2026, at Twin City Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday, May 22, 2026, at Twin City Funeral Home from 10:00 am until the time of services. After services, Irving will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.
