Jan Covington

                                                            In Loving Memory of Jan Jasper Covington May 15, 1936 – July 6, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jan Jasper Covington, who departed this life at the age of 89 on July 6, 2025.

Born on May 15, 1936, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Jan was the beloved daughter of Anthony Jasper and Elizabeth Connaughton. Her vibrant spirit and boundless energy lit up every chapter of her remarkable life—a life in which she was just as comfortable in a dress, camouflage hunting gear, or a Mardi Gras costume.

Jan's life was marked by passion, service, and community. One of her greatest joys began in 1956 with Zeta Tau Alpha. A proud and dedicated member, Jan remained involved with the sorority until 2021, serving at the national, state, and local level. She chaired three ZTA International Conventions as Convention Social Chairman and was honored with numerous awards, including the Certificate of Merit and the District President XIII-S designation (1971–1974). From 1984 to 1989, she served as the NPC Delegate Alternate II/III. In 1974, she received Zeta Tau Alpha’s highest individual honor, the Honor Ring.

Jan’s second passion was her work with Seacor, where she began her career on July 25, 1990. Starting as a receptionist, she quickly proved her dedication and skill, earning a promotion to Human Resources Assistant in April 1992, a position she held until retirement. Jan remained deeply connected to her Seacor family, checking in regularly and sharing her pride in the boat captains and interns she lovingly called “her kids.” Her warmth, loyalty, and unwavering support made her an integral part of the company and a trusted right hand to Mr. Rodney.

Jan’s third great love was Mardi Gras. She and her husband, Pete, joined the Krewe of Galatea in 1979. Her keen business acumen and steadfast dedication earned her a seat on the board, where she served in numerous roles, including Parade Lieutenant and Treasurer, for more than 40 years. Though often invited to serve as royalty, Jan preferred to uplift others, cherishing the joy it brought to see her friends shine. When she tried to retire, the captain refused her resignation, naming her a lifetime member—a true Galatea Lady, forever.

Jan is survived by her loving husband of many years, Robert “Pete” Covington III; two sons, Chris Covington and his wife Jennifer, and Kurt Covington and his wife Melanie; one cherished granddaughter, Emily Covington-Guillory, her husband Alex, their daughter Cecilia, and baby boy Guillory due this fall; her sister, Mary Jasper Miller; her brothers, Tom Jasper and Bill Jasper; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who will carry her memory forward.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Elizabeth Jasper.

A visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday, July 11, 2025, beginning at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Jan will be laid to rest in Morgan City Cemetery.

The Covington family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the teams at Ochsner St. Mary Hospital, Thibodaux Regional, Vital Care, Legacy Nursing Health Care, and St. Joseph Hospice for their dedicated care. Additionally, the family extends their sincerest appreciation to friends and neighbors for the devoted companionship and care they provided to Jan throughout her final days.

Following the services, all are warmly invited to a gathering at the Covington family home to celebrate Jan’s beautiful life.
