Josephine LaCoste

August 8, 1931 — October 19, 2022

Josephine Romero LaCoste passed away on October 19, 2022, at the age of ninety-one. Josephine will be missed by her family and friends who remember her as a joyful, loving, faithful, and quick-witted woman.

She was born on a riverboat in Morgan City, LA to her parents, Joseph Julien Romero, and Laura Lombas Romero. Though Josephine attended school only through the sixth grade, her family always valued her significant wisdom. Josephine, the third of ten children in her family and oldest daughter, spent much of her childhood and early adulthood caring for her many brothers and sisters.

In 1950, she married the late Ellis LaCoste. Josephine and Ellis shared a life in three states, Louisiana (Berwick), Texas (Brownsville and Joshua), and Alaska (Wasilla and Anchorage) and raised three children, Janice, Hollie, and Gary. Josephine, a very faithful woman, devoted her life to Jesus and raised her children to be Christian. She always enjoyed any opportunity to be outside, and especially enjoyed gardening, fishing, and cooking. In her later life, her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For the last eight years of her life, she lived in Bayou Vista, Louisiana and was a member of Word of Life Family Church in Patterson, Louisiana.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Laura Romero, her husband, Ellis LaCoste, her son, Gary Steven LaCoste, and her nine siblings, Pete Romero, Walter Romero, Sherry Romero Billiot, Mack Romero, Caesar Romero, Peggy Romero Isler, Linda Romero, Timothy Romero, and Meryl Romero Rosenberg. She is survived by her daughters, Janice LaCoste Dodds (Dan) and Hollie LaCoste Breaux (David), her grandchildren, Jeremy David Breaux (Ann), Eric Daniel Dodds (Abbey), Melony Breaux Fields (Danny), Tiffany Breaux Goebel (Michael), and Cory Ellis Dodds (Aimee).

She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Shannon Breaux Daigle (Damien), Jaden Michael Breaux, Adeline Elena Fields, Reagan Elizabeth Breaux, Rowen Alexander Goebel, Noella Jane Fields, Levi Hugo Goebel, Anelise Jade Goebel, Coralyn Dodds, Benjamin Dodds, and Isaac Dodds and her dog, Buddy.

In lieu of flowers, Josephine’s family requests that donations be made to a charity of choice, or to plant a tree or flowers in her loving memory.
