Obituary

Lena Martin Dugas, 62, a resident of Youngsville, LA, passed away peacefully, Saturday, October 17, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Lena was born on February 7, 1964, in Morgan City, the daughter of Victor “Alex” Martin and Marie Broussard Martin.

Lena dedicated 26 remarkable years of her life to shaping young minds as a beloved teacher, most notably at M.D. Shannon Elementary. Her passion for education was matched only by her deep commitment to her community, as she served tirelessly with organizations like Toys for Tots through the Marine Corps League and as a Girl Scout leader. Lena's love for life extended far beyond the classroom.

She was a devoted wife to her husband, of 42 years, James Dugas, and cherished every moment spent with her family. Her greatest pride and joy were her three beloved daughters, who were her world. Nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with them, creating memories filled with laughter and love.

She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, who brought endless joy and laughter into her life. Whether it was cooking elaborate meals, relaxing by the pool with friends and family, or nurturing her beautiful garden, Lena embraced life with a vibrant spirit.

A true adventurer at heart, Lena found freedom and exhilaration on the open road, riding her motorcycle with the wind in her hair and a smile on her face. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she shared her love of community and spirituality by teaching catechism at her church.

Lena’s warmth and enthusiasm lit up every room she entered, and her legacy of kindness and generosity will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She was deeply cherished by her lifelong friends throughout the South, many of whom she met through outdoor rallies. These friendships remained a treasured part of her life, built on shared passions, unforgettable memories, and a lasting bond.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband, James Adam Dugas; three daughters, Sara Broussard and husband John, Anne Dugas, and Laura Dugas; five grandchildren, Kensley Granger, Elyse Broussard, Kasen Dugas, Easton Lemoine, and Emberly Dugas; five siblings, Victor Martin and wife Francine, Marilyn Oldfather, Patrick Martin, Marida Broussard and husband Dwayne, Michael Martin and wife Jennine.

Lena was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Marie Martin; niece, Brook Oldfather; brother-in-law, Daniel Oldfather; sister-in-law, Donna Martin.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 23, 2026, at Twin City Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday, October 23, 2026, at Twin City Funeral Home, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. After services, Lena will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.
