Melanie Cutrera Thibodaux passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on Friday, August 7, 2026.

Born on May 12, 1954, in Morgan City, Louisiana, the daughter of Sicilian heritage, Melanie grew up at her father’s service station, Lucien’s Texaco. Melanie attended Morgan City High School, Class of 1972. Melanie was a life-long cosmetologist, where she prided herself on making each of her clients feel beautiful.

“Mel”, as she was endearingly referred to by everyone, was the epitome of a strong, caring caretaker; always putting everyone before herself with her gorgeous smile and striking green eyes.

In elementary school at M. E. Norman, her kind personality caught the eye of Glenn Thibodaux, and the two became an inseparable pair. Their 52-year marriage was a testament to enduring love, loyalty, and lifelong commitment. Through different medical ailments, they were each other’s strength. Their deep respect for one another grew even stronger over time.

There was no season Melanie loved more than Mardi Gras. As a long-time member of the Krewe of Galatea, she was later joined by her daughters, Claire and Jenny. Many great times were had at Carnival functions with the entire float group who were like a second family.

She enjoyed her regular customers at Christopher’s, where she was co-owner with Chris Rhodes. With her impeccable bookkeeping skills, she ran the business like clock-work. This precision also carried over to her managing of rental property for two entities.

Above all, Melanie was a loving, caring, and larger-than-life wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. Her greatest happiness came from time spent with those she loved. Her home was filled with warmth, love, personality, good food, and cherished treasures that perfectly reflected the special person she was.

Melanie was preceded in death by her parents, Lucien and Rosemary Cutrera; father-in-law, Howard Thibodaux, Sr.; and numerous aunts and uncles from her close-knit family.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Glenn Thibodaux; daughters, Claire Thibodaux Yates (Frank) of Mathews, LA, and Jennifer Lynn Thibodaux of Morgan City, LA; two grandchildren, Mark Broussard, Jr. and Caroline Broussard; brother, Lucien Cutrera, Jr., and his wife, Mary Lou Dyson Cutrera; mother- in-law, Clara Thibodaux; brothers-in-law Michael Thibodaux and Joey Thibodaux; sister-in-law, Stephanie Thibodaux Leonard and her husband, Troy Leonard; and her “chosen daughter,” Cynthia Rhodes.

Pallbearers will be Troy Leonard, Mike Accardo, Louis Tamporello, Kim Rhodes, Chris Rhodes, and Frank Yates.

Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 9:00 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am, celebrated by Reverend Brett Lapeyrouse. Following Mass, Melanie will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Melanie’s name to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Maintenance Fund.
