Michael James Chapman

Michael James Chapman, a resident of Berwick, passed away peacefully January 7, 2024, surrounded by his family at the age of 64.

Michael, more affectionately known as Mike or Chappy, was born in Berlin, Germany on February 2, 1959. He would later become a US Citizen and at 18 years old, he joined the US Navy in 1977 where he proudly served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69). After his service in the Navy, he was honorably discharged, and it was at that point that he began his lifelong career in the oil field.

If you knew Michael, you knew that he had an incredible work ethic that was admired by many. His job was a priority to him because he cared so deeply for providing for his family, who was his main priority in life. He worked at Cameron Iron Works / Schlumberger in Berwick for nearly 30 years and was excited to finally retire next month. When he wasn’t at work or at home with his family, you could often find Michael out on the town with his friends dancing and singing karaoke. He would energize any room he walked into and make sure everyone was having a good time.

Growing up, he was a very avid soccer player, which was his first true passion. Some of his other hobbies included watching football, especially the Army Navy game, fishing, and simply sitting outside of his house enjoying relaxing time with his family. He made many sacrifices throughout his life to make sure that his family had everything they needed. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was happy to be able to devote more time to them once he retired.

Those left to cherish his memory was his loving wife of 43 incredible years, Lisa Chapman. The love they shared for each other was nothing short of amazing. In everything they did in life, they made sure they lived for each other. Michael was also survived by 5 daughters, Lorraine Chapman and partner Kaleb Jett; Misty Chapman and partner Dennis Lipari; Ella Chapman and husband Zach Chauvin; Michelle Chapman and partner Jay Lacoste; and Monika Chapman; one son, Billy Chapman and wife Ashley Gallagher; his beloved dog of 13 years Gigi; his parents Arnold and Debbie Chapman; two brothers Frank Chapman and wife Rose; and David Chapman; one sister Misty Winningham, 18 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. He was reunited in heaven with one son, Michael Chapman II.

The pallbearers will be Billy Chapman, Frank Chapman, Zach Chauvin, Dennis Lipari, Tony Rink, Christopher Mills, and honorary pallbearers will be Troy Aucoin, Draven VanMatre, Kaleb Jett, and Jerry Landry.
