Raquel Mayer Buras

Raquel G. Mayer Buras, 76, a loving mom and grandma, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. She was a native of Venice, LA and a resident of Berwick, LA. 

Memorial visitation will be on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 from 9:00 am to the memorial service at 12:30 pm at Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City, LA.

She is survived her beloved husband of 27 years, Donald A. Buras; daughters, Cecilia Schmidt of Texarkana, TX, Grace Mayer (Nate) of Berwick, Evelyn Mayer of Kenner,  Rhonda Mayer of Berwick, Maggie Evans (James) of Bayou Vista, Amelia Despaux (Mike) of Berwick; son, Michael Mayer of Berwick; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her first husband Thurlow F. Mayer, Sr.; sons, Matthew Mayer, Jerry Mayer, Mark Mayer, Albert Mayer, Thurlow F. Mayer, Jr. (Flan); parents, Henry Gonzales and Cecelia Cortez Gonzales.

The family would like to thank the Oncology staff at Ochsner Cancer Center of New Orleans and the Urology staff of Ochsner New Orleans. The 8th floor Oncology staff were so gentle and caring to our mom. The nurses, aids, and lab techs are truly caring and loving human beings. Palliative care, thanks for listening and guiding.

We are also grateful for Dr. Scott Hebert and the staff at Thibodaux Regional Cancer Center. Although Raquel spent only a short time with them, they were so helpful and caring. Ochsner St. Mary ER staff, thank you for caring for our mom.

Hope Hospice, we could not have done this without your helping us through the heartbreaking loss of our family Matriarch and the glue of our family. Saying “thank you” does not seem like enough.
