Robert "Bob" Radtke

Robert “Bob” Radtke June 4, 1943 - June 26, 2025 Robert Edward “Bob” Radtke, 82, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 4, 1943 to the late Eugene and Ann Radtke. He joined the Marine Corps 1961 and was stationed in New Orleans where he met the love of his life, Connie Holman. They were married in 1964 and moved to Morgan City where he started working as a time keeper to a local oilfield service company. In 1972 they welcomed their only child, Robert Thomas Radtke Sr.. Bob continued his foray in the oilfield, working his way up to eventually become Vice President of Industrial Metal Works in Amelia. In 1986, Bob risked it all and opened up his own fabrication company, Radtke Construction Inc. (RadCon) where he focused on their motto “Quality, There is no substitute”. Bob received the Small Business of the Year Award from St. Mary Parish. He retired in 2017 leaving Rob to take the reins. Since arriving in Morgan City, Bob felt the need to be involved in a variety of endeavors by sharing his talent with a guitar at Holy Cross Parish Church since 1985, to reigning as King of Galatea XXVII. That same year he made one of his proudest investments, his 1998 red Corvette, which he could be seen driving around town when he was not applying one of the countless layers of polish. During the Christmas season, Bob and Connie welcomed the Marine Corps band into their home for a steak dinner. In 2008, Bob was given an honorary promotion to sergeant. He is most recently known for his prolific gardening prowess, frequently showing off his prized bounty on Facebook. During his retirement, feeling the need to busy his idle hands, he and Connie started Elegant Etchings, a small distraction from their otherwise busy social agenda, including but not limited to several large groups of loyal and dedicated friends who were like second family. In the spare time they did have, Bob and Connie enjoyed traveling extensively around the world, especially if there was a chance for Bob to play golf. They frequently included close friends on these trips making wonderful memories over the years. Bob never missed a chance to pull his guitar out and entertain, whether he was part of the show or not. He is most famous for his rendition of “Johnny B. Goode” In 1999 Bob was voted Rotarian of the Year by the Morgan City Rotary Club where his homemade barbeque sauce won him first prize at their Relay for Life Cancer Fundraiser. That same year Bob welcomed his only grandson, Robert Thomas Radtke Jr. and in 2004 he was blessed with his only granddaughter, Sarah Michelle Radtke. He also served dutifully as a board member of the St. Mary Golf and Country Club in Berwick, LA where he and Rob enjoyed many semi-competitive rounds together. It wasn't until recently that Rob finally got the best of him. After golf, Bob could be found in the club house laughing and joking with anyone who would listen offering his own special sense of humor. On August 1, 2024, Bob and Connie celebrated 60 years of marriage with the host of family and friends not knowing it would be their last big hurrah! In the spring of 2025, Bob was dealt a big blow with his diagnosis of multiple cancerous tumors, while still trying to find a humorous approach to fighting them both. Unfortunately, he lost his battle and now joins friends and family who have gone before him. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Ann Radtke. He was survived by his wife, Connie Holman Radtke, son, Robert Thomas Radtke Sr. (JoAnne), brother, James Radtke (Catherine), brother, Richard Radtke, brother, Thomas Radtke, sister, Rita Blizzard, grandson, Robert Thomas Radtke Jr., and granddaughter, Sarah Michelle Radtke.
