Robert “Pete” Lee Covington III March 5, 1936 – July 24, 2025
Robert “Pete” Lee Covington III died on July 24, 2025, in Morgan City, Louisiana, just 18 days after the passing of his beloved wife, Jan. He was 89 years old.
Born on March 5, 1936, in Monroe, Louisiana, Pete lived a life marked by perseverance, deep love for his family, and an unshakable work ethic. In 1956 & 57, he played football for the Arkansas Razorbacks—an achievement he always looked back on with pride.
In 1959, Pete enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving until 1963 and earning the rank of Corporal. He played football during his service as well, proudly representing the Marines on the field. His time in the Corps was a defining part of his identity and remained a source of lifelong pride.
After completing his military service, Pete began his career in the oilfields of Texas as a roughneck. That journey eventually brought him to Louisiana’s offshore oil and gas industry. In 1972, he and Jan made their home in Morgan City, where they would spend the next five decades building a life together. Pete worked in the industry for more than 30 years, admired for his strength, skill, and reliability.
As everyone knows, Pete loved to hunt, fish and spend time at the camp.
Pete’s greatest joy was his family. He was married to Jan for 62 years, and their devotion to each other was the heart of their home. Together, they shared a bond rooted in faith, love, and enduring support.
Pete is survived by his two sons, Chris and his wife Jennifer, and Kurt and his wife Melanie—both of whom he was deeply proud of. He also leaves behind one cherished granddaughter, Emily Covington-Guillory, her husband Alex, their daughter Cecilia, and a baby boy due this fall. He will be remembered with love by all extended family and close friends.
Our family extends their sincerest appreciation to friends and neighbors for the devoted support and companionship.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jan, his parents Robert L. Covington Jr. and Dorothy Covington, and his sister, Linda Covington Pearson Roper.
A visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morgan City on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, beginning at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Pete will be laid to rest beside Jan in Morgan City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Maintenance Fund in Pete’s honor
