Roy Walter Harrelson
July 8, 1942 - August 20, 2022
We are sad to announce Roy Walter Harrelson, 80, a longtime resident of Morgan City went to his heavenly home Saturday, August 20, 2022. Roy passed peacefully at home with his wife by his side.
Roy was born in Anniston, Alabama on July 8, 1942 to Cooper and Mary Elizabeth McNeal Harrelson. At 17, Roy joined the Air Force and finished his high school education while in the service. After the Air Force, he moved to Natchitoches and completed multiple courses at Northwestern State University. Sometime after, he earned his USCG master boat captain license and captained large vessels for over 40 years. Roy was a loyal University of Alabama Crimson Tide fan and attended several games. Roy also relished in attending Saints games at the Super Dome. Aside from football, he enjoyed leisure travel with friends and family, competing in bass fishing tournaments, playing golf with friends, and competing in golf tournaments. Roy delighted in collecting Alabama memorabilia, Coca Cola products, and coins.
Mr. Roy is survived by his wife Joyce Blanchard Harrelson; son John Crosby of Anniston, AL; children Robert Scully Jr. and his wife Judy of Berwick, Steve Scully Sr. of Morgan City, Sherie Giroir and her husband Ronald "Ronnie" Sr. of Stephensville, and Steward Scully of Morgan City; grandchildren Steve Scully Jr. of Morgan City, Shaina G. Trahan and her husband Casey of Franklin, Tiffani Scully of Bayou Vista, Ronald Giroir Jr. and his wife Alexis of Houma, Brittany Scully of Nashville, TN, Mary G. Verret and her husband Orry of Garden City, Robert Scully III and fiance Breanna Bourgeois, and Emily Scully of Lafayette; brother Danny Harrelson and his wife Darlene of Valdosta, GA; nephew Daniel Harrelson and wife Rebecca of Valdosta GA; nieces Latasha Gay and her husband Shaun of Valdosta, GA, Rebekah Bailey and her husband Chad of Liberty, SC, Rachel Fail and her husband Brian of Holly Spring, MS, and Elizabeth Christie and her husband Travis of Valdosta, GA; 11 great grandchildren and many great nieces and nephews.
Mr. Roy is preceded in death by his parents Cooper and Mary Harrelson and wife Wanda Blanchard Harrelson.
A service of remembrance will be held at Twin City Funeral Home on August 24, 2022. Visitation for immediately family will begin at 8 a.m. and regular visitation hours will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m.
Mr. Roy will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery, where military honors will be rendered by the East St. Mary Funeral Squad.
